Marshall Islands linguistics

The Marshall Islands have two official languages: Marshallese and English. The Marshall Islands have two main sections: the Ralik chain and the Ratak chain. Ralik is in the west and Ratak is in the east. Lae Atoll is in the Ralik Chain. Each of these two chains has a dialect. The Ralik Cahin has the Rālik dialect and the Ratak Chain has the Ratak dialect. The atoll of Ujelang also has a different dialect, but it is now uninhabited. Marshallese is very close to other languages like Gilbertese of Kiribati, Chuukese the Caroline Islands of FSM, Mokilese of Mwoakilloa of FSM, Kosraean of Kosrae of FSM, Pohnpeian of the Caroline Islands of FSM, Nauruan of Nauru, and Refaluwasch of the Caroline Islands of FSM. It even has 50% lexical similarity to Gilbertese, Pohnpeian, and Mokilese. 98.2% of the population here speak Marshallese, while 1.8% of people speak other languages.

This image shows the Marshallese alphabet and its 24 letters. It also shows words that include each letter in Marshallese, and each word's English meaning
